From Empty Sand to Energy Landmark
Picture an empty stretch of desert. Now picture that same spot humming with turbines, cables and cranes. That's exactly what happened at Rumah, Saudi Arabia, where Harbin Electric International (HEI) is building the Rumah-2 Combined-Cycle Power Plant.
This isn't just another construction project, though. It's a centerpiece of Saudi Arabia's Vision 2030 energy transition, swapping fuel oil for cleaner natural gas and cutting over 5 million tons of CO2 every year once complete.
The Turbine's Epic Road Trip
So how do you move a 253-ton gas turbine? Very, very carefully. When its original route fell through, the team rerouted nearly 2,000 kilometers across the country. Bridges got reinforced, traffic got diverted, and clearances were measured in centimeters.
Meanwhile, back at the site, crews from China, Saudi Arabia and India pushed through brutal heat to raise the plant from scratch.
Trust Built Alongside Steel
On June 30, 2026, Gas Turbine Unit 1 finally lifted into place. It's a milestone worth celebrating.
