Cairo Calling: Eni and Egypt Chart a Gas-Powered Future

A Meeting of Minds in Cairo

So, big news out of Cairo (Egypt) today. President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi sat down with Eni CEO Claudio Descalzi to talk shop about their long-running partnership. Naturally, Egypt's Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly and Minister of Petroleum Karim Badawi joined in too.
Together, they covered a lot of ground, from past wins to what's coming next for Egypt's energy sector.

Big Gas, Bigger Plans

First, Descalzi walked through Eni's upstream investments, which have cemented the company as Egypt's top oil and gas producer. Then came the headline: the Denise West discovery, packing roughly 2 TCF of gas. Consequently, Eni is racing toward a Final Investment Decision with bp and EGPC, aiming for first gas in under two years.

Meanwhile, offshore Sinai production has jumped 50% since 2025, thanks to steady drilling across Eni-operated areas.

Beyond Egypt's Borders

Additionally, the pair discussed Cronos, Eni's Cyprus gas project, which just hit FID and could help Egypt become a true Mediterranean energy hub.
People, Not Just Pipelines
Finally, Descalzi reaffirmed Eni's health-project commitments. Overall, it's a partnership built on energy—and community.
