Turning the Tide: WABAG’s Landmark Role in Saudi Arabia’s Water Future

A Vision Flowing into Reality

In a groundbreaking announcement, **VA TECH WABAG (WABAG), a global leader in water and wastewater treatment solutions**, has set the stage for one of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia’s most ambitious infrastructure projects. The **Developer Consortium**—comprising Metito Utilities Limited, Etihad Water and Electricity Company PJSC, and SkyBridge Limited Company—has been officially recognized as the *Preferred Bidder* by the **Saudi Water Partnership Company (SWPC)** for the prestigious **Hadda Independent Sewage Treatment Plant (ISTP) Project**.

Under the visionary *Build, Own, Operate and Transfer (BOOT)* model spanning 25 years, this project aims to reshape the region’s water management landscape. WABAG proudly stands as the *preferred Engineering, Procurement and Construction (EPC) partner*, entrusted with the critical role of translating complex designs into functional and efficient treatment facilities. As water scarcity becomes a pressing global challenge, projects like these bring hope and solutions to millions.

The Scale, Scope, and Promise

The EPC scope outlined in the winning bid paints a picture of scale and innovation. The Hadda ISTP Project’s first phase will see the creation of a sewage treatment plant with an **initial capacity of 100,000 m³/day**, expandable to a remarkable **250,000 m³/day**. Coupled with an advanced **Treated Sewage Effluent (TSE) reuse system**, a massive storage tank, and a **38-kilometre transmission pipeline with a throughput capacity of 350,000 m³/day**, the infrastructure promises not only efficiency but also long-term resilience.

Transitioning from planning to execution will depend on the finalization of concession agreements and the financial closure by the Developer Consortium. Yet, the momentum is unmistakable. As Mr. Rohan Mittal, Head – Strategy and Business Growth – GCC, aptly expressed, *this is both an honour and a responsibility*. His words reflect WABAG’s deep commitment to delivering excellence while strengthening partnerships in the Middle East—particularly in Saudi Arabia, where water innovation is critical for sustainable growth.

Shaping Tomorrow’s Water Stories

With each passing day, the Hadda ISTP Project edges closer to becoming a reality—one that will redefine sewage treatment and water reuse in the region. **VA TECH WABAG’s** involvement is more than a business milestone; it is a promise to blend global expertise with local vision. From engineering precision to operational excellence, WABAG and its partners are poised to create infrastructure that will serve generations to come.

Water is life, and this project is a testament to how strategic partnerships and innovative technologies can ensure it flows where it’s needed most.
