Aluminium Comeback: EGA's Epic Refinery Roars Back to Life!

Rising from the Ashes

United Arab Emirates giants make bold moves in industry. Emirates Global Aluminium, the biggest ‘premium aluminium’ producer in the world, today announced the restart of alumina production at Al Taweelah alumina refinery in Abu Dhabi. Teams work fast and smart after tough times.

Moreover, everyone celebrates this quick recovery. You see dedication turning challenges into triumphs.

Powering the Future

Al Taweelah alumina refinery produced 2.4 million tonnes of alumina in 2025, and met 46 per cent of EGA’s alumina needs. Alumina is the feedstock for aluminium smelters. Production at Al Taweelah alumina refinery was suspended on 28 March after Iranian attacks on Khalifa Economic Zone Abu Dhabi.

Additionally, leaders push ahead with confidence. Abdulnasser Bin Kalban, Chief Executive Officer of Emirates Global Aluminium, highlights the team's agility. They ramp up safely and quickly toward full power.

Port Power-Up: Abu Dhabi's Aluminium Titans Level Up the Dockside Game!

Abu Dhabi, UAE – Big Moves on the Waterfront

AD Ports Group and Emirates Global Aluminium just shook hands on an exciting AED 84 million upgrade. They team up to transform EGA’s dedicated berth at Khalifa Port.

This smart partnership lets them welcome bigger Newcastlemax dry bulk vessels that haul 15–20% more cargo than before. Everyone wins with smoother operations and higher productivity.

Why This Deal Fuels the Future

The project finishes by August 2028 and will handle around 8 million tonnes of bulk cargo yearly. Workers upgrade capping beams, add bollards, extend crane foundations, install new utilities, and complete vital dredging.

Saif Al Mazrouei and Abdulnasser Bin Kalban both cheer the collaboration. It strengthens infrastructure, boosts efficiency, and supports sustainable growth across the UAE and beyond. Khalifa Port keeps shining as a top global hub!
